The Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation and the Irish Fish Producers Organsations are continuing to search for the missing crew of Irish Coast Guard helicopter R116, Paul Ormsby and Ciarán Smith, by organisating a coordinated search of Donegal Bay this weekend (April 8-9).

Some of the large refrigerated salt-water vessels along other vessels will be leaving Killybegs on Friday afternoon to be in a position to start the search from Black Rock Lighthouse, covering Donegal Bay and further north.

“This search has been discussed with the the Coast Guard and they are very appreciative of our support, advice and continued assistance. We are asking all fishing vessels operating in the area to keep a close eye out for any debris from the helicoper,’ a statement reads.

While acknowleding the many vessels that want to get invovled, the organisers are asking vessels not to risk going to sea in small vessels when the weather conditions are unsuitable.

‘Safety at sea is of paramount importance and we do not want further tradedies.’
