Des Cahill, renowned Irish sports broadcaster, will oversee proceedings of the National Seafood Awards in Dublin on November 17.
Organised by BIM, these inaugural awards will celebrate Ireland’s €1bn seafood industry, and recognise excellence across the fishing, fish farming, seafood processing and retail sectors in areas of skills, sustainability, innovation and competitiveness.

Outlining the rationale behind the event, the seafood agency’s chief executive Tara McCarthy said the awards have been developed to recognise an industry that is the cornerstone of coastal communities and is an integral part of the agri-food portfolio.
“This event is all about profiling the many leaders and shining lights in this industry and in doing so, build a greater appreciation for an industry with significant potential in the years ahead.”
Joe O’Flynn, director of Agrifood Business Partners and chairman of the judging panel said the calibre of entries presented a challenging but exciting task for the judging panel.
“The standard is extremely high and reflects the exemplary work going on behind the scenes in this vibrant sector. It is great to see the seafood sector being singled out for its own awards ceremony.”
