Statement from Gillian Mills, Chair, Sea-Fisheries Protection Consultative Committee, regarding threats against Sea-Fisheries Protection Officers
It has come to the attention of the SFPA Consultative Committee that an incident occurred recently in the south east whereby a Sea Fisheries Protection officer was threatened by a member of the fishing sector. This type of behaviour is not acceptable and the Consultative Committee, which represents various fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders, strongly condemns this type of behaviour. It is neither reflective of nor supported by the fishing community.
Should anyone have any concerns or grievances in relation to the role of the SFPA and its officers, there are channels to resolve these matters in a measured and respectful way.
