A public consultation: Trawling Activity inside the 6 nautical mile zone is seeking the views of stakeholders, following concerns raised on the level of trawling inside this zone.
The topic has been the subject of scientific and economic reports by the Marine Institute and BIM as well as preliminary engagement with fisheries representive groups.

Launching the consultation, which runs until June 11, marine minister Michael Creed said the consultation provided an opportuity to examine a case for giving priority access to inshore boats within 6 nautical miles of the coast and would better support the inshore eco-system.
“The consultation ensures that the diverse interests of all stakeholders are heard and considered so that any possible measures introduced will be both fair and balanced.”
The minister has prepared a formal paper with advice from the Marine Institute and BIM to set out possible measures and their potential impacts.
